Energy Storage Capacitors

  • The energy storage capacitors for quick discharge are the flagship of the technology Icar, which has a long tradition in the design and manufacture of these particular devices. Starting in the '60s Icar provided for energy storage capacitors and fast discharge to higher technical and scientific research laboratories (including CERN, ENEA and CESI).
  • Thanks to an innovative metallization technology developed since the early 90s it was possible to gradually increase the gradient of the work of these capacitors, leading them to accumulate very high energies in extremely low volumes, while maintaining high reliability and quality as well as accuracy energy distribution on board.
  • The exploitation of polypropylene for this purpose becomes interesting only gradients and therefore very high for very high voltages, starting from 2000 - 2500 V as the charging voltage.
  • The ability to control the entire production process, from virgin polypropylene capacitor finished, Icar allows to obtain such benefits. Applications are several:

Liquid Cooled & Induction Heating Capacitors

  • BIOFURN is ICAR capacitor series designed for induction furnaces. It includes 3 groups based upon capacitor cooling system.
  • Induction heating furnaces, employed for metal thermal treatment, need capacitors able to bear extremely high currents, sometimes even reaching a some dozens kHz frequency.

  • Biofurn MF-W is the series of capacitors, water cooled, designed for medium frequency induction furnaces Cooling Water Power range 50 ÷ 2000 kvar Voltage range 200 ÷ 4.000V Frequency range 500 - 40.000 Hz

  • Biofurn NF-N is the series of capacitors designed for low frequency induction furnaces, with natural convection air cooling system Cooling Air, natural convection Power range 50 ÷ 300 kvar Voltage range 1.200 ÷ 2.200V Frequency range 50 - 500 Hz

  • Biofurn NF-F is the series of capacitors designed for low frequency furnaces, with forced air cooling system Cooling Air, forced Power range 50 ÷ 300 kvar Voltage range 1.200 ÷ 2.200V Frequency range 50 - 500 Hz

Over Voltage Protection Capacitors

  • Windings in electric machinery are particularly sensitive to overvoltages, especially in case of exceedingly steep wavefront: the steeper is the voltage wavefront the worst is the voltage distribution along the windings, creating the conditions for damage.
  • ICAR designs and builds capacitors and RC and FC modules suitable for protecting large electric machinery from overvoltages.
  • BIORIPHASO/TF AT is the series of capacitors by ICAR used for overvoltage protection. Designed following the customers' requirements and built with the highest quality materials, the capacitors of this group ensure performances at the highest levels of the market.

  • ICAR designs and produces also protection RC and FC groups, which are used in the field of large transformers protection for the smelters in still mills. The RC and FC groups are designed according to the requirements of each customer and can be supplied with or without the support structure.
